Chipboard had a really bad rep from the 'MFI' and 80s flat pack furniture days, these boards were thin, poorly produced and had a thin cheap laminate on the face and edge, often resulting on peeling laminates and loose joins.
Todays chipboard and MFC is superior to these boards from that era. They are thicker and denser at the core, the laminates are really good quality with strong aesthetics.
